Real Talk: Time for a Change
I received some unsettling news from my doctor in April (just before FitnessFest this year), and I needed to make a real change -- immediately. My doctor informed me that I had to lose weight, that I had a blockage, and because of my other pre-existing conditions she was going to categorize me with heart disease. How do you take that news? I am way too young for this!
The news and the thoughts were weighing on me for a couple of weeks. Then, I had the chance to have a 20-minute conversation with Bruce and Mindy Mylrea after FitnessFest was over. They are the creators of One Day to Wellness, an evidence-based wellness program that promotes sustained health and weight loss. I went home, got on their website, started looking up recipes and actually planning meals THAT DAY. I had made the decision that my life is important to me and I am the only person that can do this for me.
I also decided to attend the One Day to Wellness training in July. After all the information that Bruce and Mindy shared that day, I felt even more enlightened! I know I still have a long way to go, but I am willing to put in the hard work -- for me.
I just went to the doctor for a follow-up visit this week, and without a doubt what I am doing is making a difference. My doctor was very impressed, and I have lost almost 20 pounds (and many inches). My blood work is better than it was in April, too.
I will tell you that this lifestyle change is a struggle every day, especially with going to restaurants, spending time with family and friends, and just in general. I have to question everything I eat that I have not made myself, but now I know the questions to ask and it is going well.
The only person that can make this change is me...and this is a challenging and exciting journey. I can’t wait to see where I go next!
